n display at The Temple Institute is a temporary Menorah. Although it is built to the biblical specification of 18 handbreaths (1.5 meters) in height, and has the required decorations, including 42 cups, knobs and flowers, it is made of wax.

The Talmud teaches that the Menorah may be made of any metal, even though the original Menorah which stood in God's Sanctuary was made from a single piece of beaten gold.

An authentic menorah made of gold-plated bronze is in the process of being constructed.

Since the sages did not describe the shape of the Menorah's branches, they may be straight or curved. Curved branches were selected for the Menorah in the exhibit based upon the pictorial record on the Arch of Titus in Rome, of Temple items carried out of Jerusalem by the Romans, as well as upon descriptions found in the writings of Josephus Flavius.

Reference to the Menorah is first mentioned in the Bible in Exodus 25:31-40. God told Moses to make the seven branch candelabra out of a talent of pure gold. A talent was 125 pounds or 2000 ounces. At today's price of gold at $294.00 per ounce, the cost of the Menorah would be approximately Six Million Dollars. The Menorah was used for light in the tabernacle and later for the temple.

enorah Ministries International was founded by Jim Brown in 1978. He is a native Tennessean, and throughout his life he has been extremely active in politics, community service and the church. Besides serving eighteen years on his local school board, Jim also served as a mayor for eight years.

During his service in public life, Mr. Brown became increasingly involved in the church, dedicating his life to Christian service. He founded Menorah Ministries International to foster understanding between Christians and Jews and teaching about the common Judeo-Christian heritage.

His experience and work abroad among God's chosen people have furthered his understanding concerning the history of Israel and God's prophecy about their future on the world stage. Jim has been invited to speak about his involvement among the Jewish people, and has appeared on CBN's TV program the "700 Club," TBN's "Praise The Lord" program, and the Sonlight Broadcasting Christian TV Network.

Mr. Brown's commitment to both the Jewish people and the State of Israel is exemplified by his work in 1993 on the Black Sea as part of the "Ebenezer" program. There he worked aboard a ship in Odessa Ukraine assisting Soviet Jews who were immigrating to Israel, and he has been involved in eastern Europe helping the Christian Ministry "Exobus Project.." A ministry dedicated to enabling Soviet Jews to immigrate to the State of Israel. He is also active in taking church groups to Israel to help them better understand Christianity's Jewish roots.

Menorah Ministries vision has not changed throughout the years, but has only expanded its outreach to include working with Jewish Aliyah, combating anti-Semitism and the so called church doctrine of replacement theology, and the flagrant media bias against Israel.
